Hi there. I need some help. My 14 year old son wants to get involved in leather work. Mostly making belts and rifle slings things of that nature. I believe he wants to start with stamping and move into carving. What's the best way for me to help get him started without costing me a fortune in case he doesn't stick with it?

Hello and welcome My apoligys for the delayed response. I would suggest you start with the basic leather working tools. 16oz maul can be bought from Amazon A basket stamp and border stamp. A utility knife with extra blades. A strap cutter and spare blades Swivel knife. A 4' streight edge. A 9-10 oz double shoulder Edge beveler Burnisher Febrings pro dyes. John james #2 stitching needles, stitching chisels, stitch groover. Stitching cord. These items will get your son a start. Tell him to go to you tube and search leather working There are many instructional videos there. Search Nigel Armitige Hfe has the best saddle stitch tutorials. Bruce Cheany for stamping and carving. How to use a strap cutter ect. Your son can add to his tool collection as he goes. Hope this helped.
